Feel Good Desserts Vegan Macarons

Over the weekend, I discovered vegan macarons! I really cannot contain my excitement about this. You see, I never had a macaron before going vegan. So it’s not that seeing them everywhere for the past couple of years has been making me miss them. But it has been making me curious about them. What the texture is like, what they taste like, why are there so many flavors? I wanted to know. But… Not being able to find vegan macarons meant that my questions would go unanswered. This weekend I stopped into Republic of V, a newly opened all vegan grocery store in Berkeley, and they had vegan macarons from Feel Good Desserts!

Of course, I immediately added a package to my basket. They had two samplers, each with four macarons. One was fruity flavors and another chocolate flavors. I’m honestly not sure which would be more traditional, but I went with the chocolate set. It contained one chocolate, one hazelnut, one vanilla, and one coffee macaron. The outside was firm, but the inside was so soft! Each flavor stood out but none were overpowering. These were a really delicious and delicate treat! It was fun to have such a novelty item and I am glad that they are available online as well (though in larger quantities).

Kickstarter Launch

Monday, February 24, 2014 7:04:50 PM America/Los_Angeles

Support Vegan French Macarons by Feel Good Desserts on Kickstarter

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/418639837/feel-good-desserts-organicvegangf-bakery-french-ma

Hey we just launched our kickstarter so we can get these beauties to a store near you !! Delicate French macarons are not to be confused with American macarOOns. A macaron is a specialty pastry comprised of a crunchy, yet delicate outer shell with a soft almond meringue inside. Each macaron is filled with a decadent cream or a delicious chocolate ganache. American macaroons can be prepared in 10 minutes, but it actually takes five hours to make French macarons!

These elegant sandwich cookies are beloved by the French, especially in Paris. The bite-sized treats have become trendy there. They popup at brunches, bridal showers, and wedding dessert tables. And they make a delightful morning treat with a cup of tea. The ingredients we use include almond flour, organic unrefined cane sugar, vanilla, organic coconut spread, tapioca starch, and organic maple syrup.

The natural colors and flavors are always organic and based on fruit, vegetables, or edible flowers. The cookies come in raspberry, blueberry, banana, green tea, chocolate, coffee, hazelnut, and vanilla flavors. The French have perfected a quality of life that allows them the luxury of slowing down long enough to do things right. They know the art of perfecting a craft and using high quality ingredients. We’ve done our best to capture that French spirit in our delicacies so we can share it with everyone and offer little luxuries that make people smile. We also specialize in Raw food. The funding will allow us to produce more such food, adding a benefit to consumers. Since the Raw food industry is currently limited, customers will have more choices at the checkout aisle. This added competition will help stabilize and lower the overall cost of raw food.

In Southern California you can find our animal cruelty-free goods at Lassens, Mothers Markets, Follow Your Heart, Viva La Vegan, Erewhon, Full O Life, PC Greens Malibu, Rainbow Acres, and other stores. Once we launch nationwide others, including you, will be able to find our treats at your local health food store! The funding would cover half the entire project’s cost. Our soft goal is $30,000 and our ideal goal is $55,000. This is the exact Kickstart we need, and we’d be very grateful for it. =)

Many thanks,

Oxana Navrotskaya and Alex Galyuk,

Lemons, the focus of our Raw Lemon Mousse Cake

Saturday, February 22, 2014 1:11:17 PM America/Los_Angeles

Making our Raw Organic Lemon Mousse Cake #FeelGoodDesserts #Raw #Cake

The health benefits of lemon include its use as a treatment of throat infections, indigestion, constipation, dental problems, and fever, internal bleeding, rheumatism, burns, obesity, respiratory disorders, cholera and high blood pressure, while it also benefits hair and skin care,. Known for its therapeutic property since generations, lemon helps to strengthen your immune system, cleanse your stomach, and it is considered a blood purifier.

Lemon juice, especially, has several health benefits associated with it. It is well known as a useful treatment for kidney stones, reducing strokes and lowering body temperature. As a refreshing drink, lemonade helps you to stay calm and cool.

The health benefits of lemons are due to its many nourishing elements like vitamin C, vitamin B, phosphorous, proteins, and carbohydrates. Lemon is a fruit that contains flavonoids, which are composites that contain antioxidant and cancer fighting properties. It helps to prevent diabetes, constipation, high blood pressure, fever, indigestion and many other problems, as well as improving the skin, hair, and teeth. Studies conducted at the American Urological Association highlight the fact that lemonade or lemon juice can eliminate the occurrence of kidney stones by forming urinary citrate, which prevents the formation of crystals.

People use lemons to make lemonade by mixing lemon juice and water. Many people also use lemon as a washing agent, because of its ability to remove stains. The scent of lemon can also repel mosquitoes, while drinking lemon juice with olive oil helps to get rid of gall stones. Lemon is well known for its medicinal power and is used in many different ways. As per the results reported in a study by the Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases, lemon provides protection against inflammatory polyarthritis and arthritis. Health Benefits of Lemon

Various health benefits of lemon are explained below:

Indigestion and Constipation: Lemon juice helps to cure problems related to indigestion and constipation. Add a few drops of lemon on your dish (take care, as lemon does not go well with milk), and it will aid in digestion. Lemon acts as a blood purifier and a cleansing agent, so a good drink after lunch or dinner is fresh lemon soda, which is also called fresh lime soda in many places. The recipe is lemon juice, cold water, soda, salts (common salt or rock salt) and sugar/honey for sweetness. You can also add some mint leaves or crushed fennel seeds for added flavor. Drink this whenever you have a heavy lunch or dinner.

Fever: Lemon juice can treat a person who is suffering from a cold, flu or fever. It helps to break fevers by increasing perspiration.

Dental Care: Lemon juice is also frequently used in dental care. If fresh lemon juice is applied on the area of a toothache, it can assist in getting rid of the pain. Massaging lemon juice on the gums can stop gum bleeding, while eliminating the bad odors that can come from various gum diseases and conditions.

Additionally, lemon can be used in the regular cleansing of your teeth. Keep your eye out for a toothpaste containing lemon as one of the ingredients, or add a drop of lemon juice onto your normal toothpaste. Some people also rub their teeth with the outer shell (the inner side touching your teeth) of a lemon after removing the juice. But be careful, lemons are highly acidic, so if your mouth starts burning, rinse your gums and mouth quickly with water.

Hair Care: Lemon juice has proven itself in the treatment of hair care on a wide scale. Lemon juice applied to the scalp can treat problems like dandruff, hair loss and other problems related to the hair and scalp. If you apply lemon juice directly on the hair, it can give your hair a natural shine.

Skin Care: Lemon juice, being a natural antiseptic medicine, can also cure problems related to the skin. Lemon juice can be applied to reduce the pain of sun burn, and it helps to ease the pain from bee stings as well. Lemon juice can be applied on the skin for the treatment of acne and eczema. It acts as an anti-aging remedy and can remove wrinkles and blackheads. Drinking lemon juice mixed with water and honey brings a healthy glow to the skin, and if you thoroughly search the cosmetic market, you will find some soaps containing lemon juice, but they aren’t too easy to find!

Burns: Application of lemon juice on the site of old burns can help fade the scars, and since lemon is a cooling agent, it reduces the burning sensation on the skin when you currently have an irritating burn.

Internal Bleeding: Lemon has antiseptic and coagulant properties, so it can stop internal bleeding. You can apply lemon juice to a small cotton ball and place it inside your nose to stop nose bleeds.

Weight Loss: If a person drinks lemon juice mixed with lukewarm water and honey, it can help reduce body weight. Read more

Respiratory Disorders: Lemon juice assists in relieving respiratory problems and breathing problems, such as its ability to soothe a person suffering from an asthma attack. Lemon, as a rich rich source of vitamin C, helps in dealing with more long-term respiratory disorders.

Cholera: Diseases like cholera and malaria can be treated with lemon juice, because it acts as a blood purifier.

Foot Relaxation: Lemon is an aromatic and antiseptic agent and is useful in foot relaxation. Add some lemon juice to warm water and dip your feet in the mixture for instant relief and muscle relaxation.

Rheumatism: Lemon is also a diuretic and can treat rheumatism and arthritis. It helps to flush out bacteria and toxins from the body.

Corns: Lemon juice can dissolve lumps on the skin, so it can be applied at the places where the skin has hardened up, like the soles of feet and the palms of your hands. Drinking lemon juice with water can help patients reduce gall stones for the same reasons.

Throat Infections: Lemon is an excellent fruit that fights against problems related to throat infections, due to its well-known antibacterial properties.

High Blood Pressure: Drinking lemon juice is helpful for people suffering from heart problems, because it contains potassium. It controls high blood pressure, dizziness, and nausea, because it provides a calming sensation to both the mind and body. It is commonly employed to reduce mental stress and depression.

Lemon: Lemon has proved to be nature’s boon to everyone who uses it. It provides many valuable solutions to health-related problems, because it contains its own set of antiseptic and natural medications. A good recommendation is to eat anywhere from a quarter to a half of a lemon per day to get the maximum benefits from this powerful little fruit!

Olympic Vegan Athletes Winning Gold in Sochi, Russia !

Tuesday, February 18, 2014 4:21:30 PM America/Los_Angeles

Yesterday, Russian Olympian Alexey Voevoda won gold for two-man bobsledding. Becoming another Vegan Athlete to win Gold in Sochi. Along side Meagan Duhamel, a Canadian vegan, who has won a silver medal in a team figure skating event in Sochi, Russia!

On her Twitter page, Duhamel proclaims herself as an “Olympian, Vegan, Yogi and Nutritionist.” Now she can add medalist, too! What can we say ? This makes us FEEL GOOD !

Here are some more great Vegan / Vegetarian Athletes including our Sochi Gold Medalist Alexey Voyevoda.

Alexey Voyevoda - Russian bobsledder Alexey Voyevoda is a mountain of a man and a two-time Olympic medalist. He credits raw vegetarianism and healthy living to his high fitness level, and all eyes will be on this Sochi native this February.

Hannah Teter - Hannah Teter is a talented American halfpipe snowboarder who is Sochi-bound this year. This, after already medaling in each of the last two Olympic games. Teter has attributed her plant-based diet to giving her the renewed strength and energy to reach and stay at the highest possible competitive level in her sport.

Edwin Moses – Edwin Moses completely dominated the sport of running for eight solid years, from 1977 to 1987. Winning an unprecedented 122 consecutive races and more than his share of medals, Moses did it all on a plant-based diet.

Charlene Wong - Charlene Wong is a very accomplished figure skater, winning four silver medals at the Canadian Figure Skating Championships – all while meat-free. “It all started with my desire to be as lean and healthy as possible as a teenager around seventeen years old,” she confided in a 2012 interview.

Carl Lewis - Many are familiar with track and field legend Carl Lewis. Lewis’s storied career spanned multiple decades and multiple Olympic games. By the end of his career, Carl Lewis had won an astonishing 10 Olympic medals, nine of which were gold, and cemented his legacy as one of the fastest men to ever live. Carl Lewis is a devout vegetarian.

Ronda Rousey - Ronda Rousey is one of the toughest women in sports today, a heavy hitter in the UFC and judo Olympian. Rousey is the current number one pound-for-pound female mixed martial arts fighter in the world. Yet few are aware that she is also a strict vegan. Rousey’s ongoing commitment to healthy eating has given her the edge to be one of MMA’s most dominant competitors, if not one of its most intriguing personalities.

Surya Bonaly - French-American figure skater Surya Bonaly is another athlete who adheres to a vegetarian diet. Bonaly was an unbeatable force on the ice throughout most of the 1990s, winning medal after medal, including five gold medals in the European Championships.

Chris Campbell - From his 700-pound leg presses to his crushing holds, Chris Campbell was the epitome of athletic excellence in 1992, when he became one of the oldest men to win an Olympic medal in wrestling. Campbell was just a few months away from his 38th birthday at the time, and credits ample helpings of his favorite dish – tofu stroganoff – for his great longevity in the sport.

Bode Miller - Skier Bode Miller won our hearts in the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City, and again in the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver. But he also won five Olympic medals as well, all while being a strict vegetarian. In fact, Bode Miller has been vegetarian since birth, and is a leading advocate for sustainable organic farming.

Debbi Lawrence - Debbi Lawrence was a compelling figure in an often overlooked sport called racewalking. A three-time Olympian, Lawrence is proof that vegetarianism can benefit athletes from all “walks” of life, spanning all manner of sports.

Dylan Wykes - Canadian runner Dylan Wykes is one of the best distance athletes his country has ever produced. Preferring a diet rich in quinoa and lentils, Wykes does not eat meat due to ethical concerns.

Murray Rose - Murray Rose’s swimming feats in the 1956 and 1960 Olympics established Australia as one of the world’s most dominating swimming powers. A winner of six medals, Rose was a vegan throughout his career and throughout his life, while openly crediting all of his success to his diet.

Lizzie Armitstead - Like Bode Miller, British cyclist Lizzie Armistead has been vegetarian since birth. Armistead was the pride of her nation during the 2008 Olympics in London, when she won a coveted cycling medal. All without, as she puts it, “eating corpses.”

Vegan House Wives Review

Vegan Macaroons from Feel Good Desserts So, this may come as a shock to some of you, but I had no idea what macaroons were until this past year (GASP, I know)! From the first time I saw their fluffy little bodies, I knew we would fall in love, but I couldn’t find a legit looking vegan macaroon for the life of me! I recently found Feel Good Desserts on Instagram and their vegan macaroons looked so pretty that I had to try them! In order to get the best macaroon experience possible, I got 2 of every color/flavor they had- one for me, one for a friend, two for me, none for a friend- tomato, to-mah-to. Let me start by saying that I can’t believe I never experienced macaroons until age 27. They are so fluffy and beautiful! Like tiny, pastel, flavor-filled clouds! However, despite my order of 16, they are super rich- just one does the trick and their sweetness would pair magically with black coffee! While you will be tempted to devour them all, don’t. From experience, more than a few bites is a bad idea. If you could overdose on macaroons, John and I would have when these arrived Feel Good Desserts is currently offering 2 different boxes- a fruity pack and a chocolate, vanilla, hazelnut and coffee pack. The colors of the fruity pack have my heart, but the chocolate pack was definitely my favorite! John liked vanilla best and I’m torn between the other 3 that came with it. Have you tried Feel Good Desserts (or any other vegan macaroons) yet? If so, what are your favorites? I’d love to check out some more! For the record, this was not a sponsored review. I was just really excited to find Feel Food Desserts’ vegan macaroons and wanted to share. Oh, they also have some cute little vegan shirts that are printed on the most wonderful t-shirt material I’ve ever felt!
